MOULTON 77 DOES CARMEN!!  (8 June 2009)

Anyone attending the Derngate on Monday may well have been surprised to see us on stage playing the opening number!!  Yes we opened this famous opera playing "Spanish Gypsy Dance", before leaving it to the professionals to carry on.

Saturday 16th May - Christchurch Fete - Yet again at this fete it rained, which we were glad about really, because it meant we could play in the Church itself, aways a bonus!!

Wednesday 13th May - Moulton Parish Church - This was part of Moulton Festival Week, and the first time we had been in the Church since they have taken all the pews out, which meant we could fit in the Church at the front.

ST GEORGES DAY PARADE: (14/5/09)
Anyone for Death or Glory!
For the first time for years, the band marched at Pitsford Villages, St Georges Day Parade.  For those of us with left feet, this was more than a regular challenge.  We played the tunes of "Standard of St George" and "Death or Glory" as we marched around the village.  We were welcomed by the villagers as they stood at their front gates, probably slightly surprised at what they were seeing!  St George on his trusty steed was certainly impressive, and hopefully we shall return next year for a re-performance.

Please see the photos on our photobucket, and if anyone has any photos of the band, please send them in.

SAINTS RUGBY CLUB: (8/4/09)

Moulton 77 Band played on Saturday 4th April before the Saints game against Gloucester.  Afterwards we were able to stay and watch the Saints win their game 40-22.  Well done to the Saints, and thanks to everyone who listened and put some money in our collecting buckets.

MOVING ON TO PASTURES NEW: Adrian Letts – Principal Euphonium (28/3/09)

AdrianLetts2008.jpg picture by moulton77brassbandAdrianLetts2006.jpg picture by moulton77brassband

Adrian has been a member of Moulton 77 for over 17 years as Principal Euphonium, and has unfortunately decided to leave not only the band, but the County.

I first met Adrian in the Northampton Concert Band, where he later invited me to join Raunds Temperance Band, where he was their Conductor, when they were going on a short Town Twinning tour to Germany. On the first rehearsal I can remember people kept referring to Sam, it took me 1½ hours to finally realise they were talking about Adrian!! He was known as Sam in Raunds, something to do with him being in the Police, and getting the nickname after a Police Dog, and it stuck!

He has seen the band through “the Good, the Bad, and the Very Ugly” times (Adrian will know what I mean!). He has been in the Salvation Army Bands, the Grenadier Guards, and played for various other bands.

He has been our Coach Driver on a number of occasions. The most memorable time being in the Isle of Wight, where he accidentally destroyed a bench on the sea front by reversing the Coach into it! (Don't worry, nobody was on it at the time). This was the day before he officially retired from the Police Force!

In September 2006, just over a week before Moulton 77 were due to go to the National Finals in Huddersfield, he had a head on car accident which very nearly killed him. With a lot of hard work on Adrians part, it was great to see him back playing with the band.

I have always found Adrian very helpful, and he has been one of the cornerstones of Moulton 77 Band; serving on the Committee, Conducting when required, and keeping the band going when numbers hit an all time low, without his commitment to the band, I believe the band would have struggled to keep going, and he will be greatly missed.

Adrian has left due to his job, and has gone to Cornwall. I wish him (and Belinda Loughlen, who will be joining him soon), all the best, and hope they enjoy living in a beech hut somewhere in Cornwall selling ice creams!!

GENERAL INFO ABOUT THE BAND: (7/1/09)

We are a band of Northamptonian players. We meet twice a week with the objective to excel in performing, rehearsing and enjoying our music. We work hard to make sure that members are fulfilled in their music, and that players enjoy spending their spare time with the band. To this end, we perform at numerous concert and fetes throughout the year around the town and neighbouring villages. Please, if you see us around, come and talk to us. We love nothing better than meeting old band members, or retired players who have retain an interest in brass band playing.

We would also like to thank other players and bank members who have come together for the band. We are in banding terms a small minnow, a band with some good players and a core of players who have remained loyal and supportive to the band throughout the transition period from our previous MD. As fellow band players will know readily, transition periods are tough. It is in these times that loyal members are key. We at Moulton have great loyal players. Good people, who tell you how it is and continue to turn up through the difficult periods. These members should be acknowledged for their support, time, effort and passion.

We have, some people would say, we have had the luck of the Irish! At the beginning of 2008, we had a full membership of 18 max. We now have 32, and this will continue to climb. The reason for this is that with each new member, with each extra commitment made by a local player, the bands community will grow. We have seen some fantastic players return to the band over the year, and new players alike. We look forward to 2009 and to the challenges that lie ahead. Our thanks to Martyn France (Probably the nicest MD in the World) and our industrious Committee.
